FAQs

How do I get a Library Card?

Library staff can help you obtain a library card on your next visit to the library.

  • An applicant must present a government issued photo ID.
  • Parental signature on the application is required when the patron is under the age of eighteen.
  • There is no residency requirement.

How long does a Library Card last?

Library cards generally expire every three years.

What if I lose my Library Card?

Lost cards should be reported promptly. The charge for a replacement card is one dollar.

What if I move and my address changes?

You can modify your personal information by logging on to your account online or you can ask library staff to update your information.

Can I check out materials if I don't have my Library Card with me?

Yes, just present your photo ID at the Circulation Desk.

May I use my card at other public libraries?

Library cards issued by the library can be used only to borrow materials from Sterling Municipal Library.

How long can I keep borrowed Library Materials?

  • Books - Three weeks.
  • Audio Books - Three weeks.
  • Audio CDs - Three weeks.
  • DVDs - Seven days.

How many items can I check out?

New borrowers may check out up to six items. 

Established borrowers may check out up to 25 items.

How can I renew materials I have checked out?

Checked out items can be renewed online by logging on to your library account. Items can also be renewed in person or over the phone with a library card number. If someone else has put an item on reserve, it cannot be renewed.

How much is an overdue fine?

  • Books, Audio Books, DVDs, and Audio CDs - 10¢ per day
  • Interlibrary Loan Items- $1 per day

Is there a grace period for overdue items?

All items must be returned promptly no later than due date.

What if the library does not have the material I need?

If a particular book or magazine article you wish to read is not in our collection, we may be able to get it for you from another library. Requests for Interlibrary Loan can be made at the library's reference desk or by completing an online request form.

Does the library provide computers for Internet Access?

Yes, the library provides computers with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher) and Internet Access. A library card is required to access library computers.

All library computers are filtered to comply with Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA).

Does the library have Wireless Internet Access?

Sterling Library is a wireless hotspot. Unsecured wireless Internet Access is available free of charge.

For the past few weeks, my mind has been living in the 1920s. Amazingly, women’s rights, as we know them, were nearly non-existent just 100 years ago! The following three books have strong female characterization and complex relationships. I enjoyed the journey of each protagonist and was interested in how each found her voice as she broke free from the traditional roles of women in the Roaring Twenties and beyond.
