- Over 3 million adult Texans have such low literacy skills that they are unable to fill out a job application.
- 25% of Americans cannot address an envelope well enough for it to reach its destination
About Our Program
Since 1986, Sterling Municipal Library's Adult Literacy Program has been providing quality literacy instruction to adults in the community who have trouble reading and/or speaking English. Our staff and team of volunteers are committed to helping adults who read below a 5th grade level improve their basic literacy and English skills. Trained volunteer tutors provide weekly instruction tailored to the specific needs and goals of each student. All instruction and materials are provided to the students free-of-charge. In addition to basic literacy and ESL classes, the Library has a variety of computer software programs that students can use to improve their literacy skills.
