Council Member District 5

Jacob Powell was first elected the District 5 Council Member in December 2020. His term expires in November 2023.

Powell was born and raised in Tallassee, Alabama. He moved to Baytown the first time in 2008 for an internship at ExxonMobil. After graduating from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Jacob returned to Texas in 2011 to work full-time at ExxonMobil.

Councilman Powell currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Goose Creek CISD Education Foundation and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) of Liberty and Chambers Counties. He is also the President of the Board of Directors for Mountain View Missions. He previously served on the school board of Baytown’s First Baptist Academy and the Board of Directors for Blast & Cast Men's Ministries.

He is currently employed as a Power Distribution Engineer at Covestro. As an executive member of their Outreach Council, he plays a large part in driving their community involvement. He enjoys reading to students at James Bowie Elementary, Covestro’s Partner in Education.

Jacob is married to Bekah. They have four children and are licensed foster parents. They attend Second Baytown Church where Jacob serves in the worship ministry. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, reading, enjoying the outdoors, and restoring his 1971 Chevy C10 pickup.
