Explore the Game of Pickleball
Pickleball has been one of the fastest growing sports in America for three years in a row, deemed a “game for everyone”. If you’ve been interested in the sport, but haven’t known how to begin, we have everything you need to dive right in!
1) Starting is as easy as dropping inside the Baytown Community Center (2407 Market Street, Baytown) on Mondays and Wednesdays for free admission to “Open Play”. If you come from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., we have a designated indoor court for beginners to play around. We even provide the equipment, so all you have to do is walk in. If you have already been playing the game and are just looking for friends to compete against, you can drop into Open Play on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
2) Once you catch the bug and want to learn more, you can sign up for our “Pickleball Clinic” set for Monday, September 16. There is a beginner session ($35), intermediate session ($35), and youth session ($20). The equipment will be provided and it is a great time to get advice on getting started with your own equipment.
3) Now that you have some knowledge of the game and equipment, you can spend some time at the dedicated Pickleball courts outdoors at N.C. Foote Park (2428 W Main St, Baytown) right next to the Community Center. The court is open to the public 7 days a week from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This will give you plenty of practice time to hone your skills and master the game.
4) Next, it’s time to level up and try out a “Pickleball League”. The league consists of official competition games where you will need to provide your own paddle and a partner. You and your teammate will go up against other teams at the outdoor tennis courts located at Pirates Bay (5300 E Rd, Baytown) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The Fall 2024 League starts September 24 and plays through October 17. The winners receive champion swag and free entry to the next league!
