The City of Baytown is now seeking candidates who possess the qualifications and talent to join the elite ranks of the Baytown Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic. The Baytown Fire Department is a career fire department with 168 total uniformed personnel (paid firefighters), with 156 of those working a 48 hours on/96 hours off schedule. A civil service examination is given to establish an eligibility list of candidates for employment. A candidate must pass both the written and physical examination to be considered for employment. Applications are accepted from individuals that are currently:
- Paramedic (National Registry or Texas Department of State Health Services)
Lateral Pay Program
- Starting salary based on whole years of firefighter or paramedic experience (1 for 1) at current place of employment, up to the max tier (7).
- To be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Currently employed as a fulltime Firefighter or Paramedic for a not-for-profit or government public safety agency (Municipal/County agency, Emergency Service District, Fire or EMS District) that provides 911 emergency services.
Dual (firefighter/paramedic) certification at time of application.
Fire certification must be TCFP or eligible for TCFP through IFSAC reciprocity.
Paramedic certification must be National Registry or State of Texas.
- Currently employed as a fulltime Firefighter or Paramedic for a not-for-profit or government public safety agency (Municipal/County agency, Emergency Service District, Fire or EMS District) that provides 911 emergency services.
- Pay applies only to base pay. Does not apply to seniority, longevity, shift picks, etc.
Physical Ability Test
The test date for the Physical Ability Test (PAT) will be scheduled during the hiring process. The location of PAT will be held at the Baytown Fire Training Field, 7022 Bayway Dr, Baytown, TX.
If a candidate has successfully passed the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) and holds a valid certification, the candidate does not need to take the Baytown PAT.
Civil Service Written Examination
The City of Baytown's Entrance Exam Process for Firefighter/Paramedic is completed exclusively through National Testing Network (NTN). Applications received that do not have a completed NTN entrance examination associated with the City of Baytown, will result in an incomplete application and will be disqualified.
