[ARCHIVED] Arrest Made in Baytown Road Rage Shooting

Baytown Police Press Release

Case# 2023-55699

Baytown Police have apprehended 24-year-old Louisiana resident Javonte A. White in connection with the shooting of a 26-year-old female Baytown resident. The incident occurred near the 3400 block of Garth Road, where the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head during an apparent road rage altercation. As of the latest update, the victim is reported to be in stable condition. White admitted to the shooting and has been charged with Aggravated Assault.

On Monday, November 6, 2023, at approximately 6:43 a.m., hospital staff contacted the Baytown 911 Call Center to report a gunshot victim who had arrived at the emergency room in a private vehicle, driven by her passenger. The passenger informed law enforcement the shot was fired by a male passenger in a red van, displaying a Louisiana temporary tag in the rear window on the passenger side. Baytown detectives, armed with only the vehicle description, promptly initiated a search of the local Flock Safety cameras. The Flock Safety camera footage yielded crucial evidence, which was swiftly accessed by detectives and disseminated to all law enforcement officers in the area.  This critical evidence led detectives to identify the suspect within hours of the shooting. A photograph of the 2000 Ford Econoline Regency van was presented to the passenger of the victim's vehicle, who positively confirmed it was the same vehicle involved in the shooting. Baytown detectives subsequently located the van in a retail parking lot situated in the 6400 block of Garth Road. The occupants of the van were taken into custody without incident at approximately 10:30 a.m. The firearm used in the shooting was later recovered from the van. The charges against White will be upgraded to murder if the victim does not survive.

Chief of Police, John Stringer states: “The Baytown Police Department appreciates the incredible teamwork that went into this investigation and led to an arrest within hours of the incident. Investigative tools such as the Flock ALPR system, combined with a well trained group of law enforcement professionals committed to protecting our citizens has produced results such as these. As Chief of Police for the Baytown Police Department, I cannot emphasize enough how proud we are of our police officers and detectives. I also cannot overemphasize that crimes of violence will not be tolerated against anyone in our city. We will bring all of our resources to ensure that these crimes are professionally investigated, offenders identified, located, and arrested.”
