[ARCHIVED] Baytown Fire Department Rescues Individual in Ship Fire

Baytown, Texas – (Jan. 8, 2024) At approximately 3:56 a.m., the Baytown Fire Department was dispatched the Port Houston Barbours Cut Container Terminal for a mutual-aid ship fire.

Upon receiving the call, it was reported that a fire had erupted in the engine room of the vessel, with three crew members unaccounted for. Engine 2 and Medic 2 arrived on scene and were directed to the vessel's engine room to perform rescue operations. During the search, Baytown firefighters located the unaccounted crew members. Regrettably, two of them were found to be deceased, while the third was alive.

Baytown Tower 7 responded to assist with extricating the victims from the ship. The injured crew member was transported by Life Flight in critical condition. No other injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.
